There are pros and cons as someone has mentioned earlier..Heres my personal opinion
Pros:
Tourism industry
Employment within the F&B sector increases
Additional income from gambling taxes for the govt
Conservative S’pore is placed on the international map as a casino destination
Cons:
Social problems- Domestic
Increased number of illegal money lending
Money laundering issues
Problems related to gambling,ie addiction,
Unhealthy activities,prostitution,etc( its proven in places like Vegas,money and prostituion is directly related)

The good points of having casinos are these -
Boost economy
Put Singapore on the world map
So Singapore can remain competitive
Job opportunities
Opening up of society
Liberalization of conservative mindsets
Why not?
Studies have shown that the number of gamblers DO NOT increase with the building of casinos.
It remains the same at 1 -2 %.
Besides, gambling has ALWAYS been around. Horse racing at Kranji, TOTO, 4D, Jackpots, cruises, Chinese New Year gambling, mahjong etc.
People need a hope sometimes. And if they can “buy” hope with a bit of gambling, let them be, of course with measures to protect the gambler and his/her family.
