While you’re on the table, don’t just focus your attention on the cards you’re playing, you should also watch for discreet body language or informative habits and strategies of everyone you are playing against. Keep in mind that all players have revealing tells that gives away his or her excitement, worry or perhaps indifference and many other emotions.

Experienced players will try their best to hide their poker tells or even mislead their opponents, however it will very hard for any individual to hold back non verbal communications. Take note that a critical technique in observing the other players is to watch them when they are not participating in a hand. Once you have a clear idea of what normal is for someone, it will be easier for you to identify what their physical mannerisms, expressions and quirks could mean.

This strategy will be most effective when you regularly play at the same poker venue and you already know most of the players. This way, it will help you in determining what normal is for them when there’s no mental and emotional work that goes into betting a hand.

Of course, the other players are also watching you and you need to craft an even keeled persona. Good luck.

Brink of Death on the Brink of Niagara’s Horseshoe Falls

Suicide rescue – Brink of Death on the Brink of Niagara’s Horseshoe Falls (Canadian Falls) on the American side next to Goat Island – the rescuers are the daredevil heros. This is actual footage captured by tourists and amateur photographers on 19 March 2003, of a 48 yo man from Buffalo, NY, at the brink of Niagara’s Horseshoe Falls along Terrapin Point of Goat Island, NY. Earlier that day he lost thousands (borrowed from his father) at newly opened Seneca Nation casino, and was already $600000 in debt to Casino Niagara in Canada. He was overcome with despair, and left a carefully written note behind saying, “Please tell my parents I’m sorry.” The shock of the cold water and swift current jolted him to realize he wasn’t ready to die – commonly said by survivors of dramatic suicide attempts, ie, at the Golden Gate Bridge. At the very last moment before the falls brink, he wedged his feet in a crevice and held on for hours before rescue. How was he able to stand there or stop his body from advancing to the edge? Rapids above the falls reach a speed of 25 mph / 40 kph. The bottom is jagged and worn slippery smooth (walk on the rocks at three sisters’ islands to see how slippery, even when dry). The water at the spot where the man stood was thigh high. At night and in winter 75% of the water is diverted for power (in summer daytime 50% is diverted). At 5:00pm in Summer there is twice as much water, deeper and more violent. How he withstood the water pressure, even reduced, on

When we talk about poker odds, these are the terms that you’ll often encounter. The outs are the number of cards left in the deck that will improve your hand. Pot odds are the odds that you get when analyzing the current size of the pot against your next call. Bet odds are the odds that you get as a result of evaluating the number of callers to a raise. Implied odds are the odds you are getting after the assumed result of betting for the remainder of the hand.

Among those odds, what the players commonly use are the outs and the pot odds. This means that you are going to get a lot of counting on this aspect. Computing for the odds is as simple dividing numbers. The numerator is the number of outs and the denominator is the number of cards that we have not seen. The answer is the percentage chance of making one of those outs. You will be dividing small numbers by 50 on the preflop, 47 after the flop and 46 after the turn.

For the pot odds, all you have to do is you compare your outs or your chance of winning to the size of the pot. You can say that you have good pot odds if your chance of winning is significantly better than the ratio of the pot size to a bet.

All these odds when can be sometimes confusing but with more practice and understanding how odds are computed it will later on just come out naturally.

When two or more players have hands of the same value during the showdown or in other words a tie happens, split pots in Texas holdem rules is followed. To better understand the game of Texas you must know the basic terms used in the game. Suits are spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. Suited is the term for having the same suit. Rank refers to the order of the cards, example Jack, Queen and Ace. Split pot happens when multiple players tie for a hand, then pot is split up evenly among the winners. Kicker refers to the other cards left over after a hand is declared.

The type of suit a player has is not a tie-breaking factor either. If you still have the same five card hand after evaluating the ranks, the pot is split evenly among all the winning players. The winning hand is the highest five card hand. A sixth or seventh card is never used to break a tie.

An example situation where a split occurs; Player A has 4-J and Player B has 3-J. The community card is composed of 10-7-9-8-2. In this case the pot is split because both players can make a jack high straight. Kickers do not apply because the best possible five card hand is the straight.

Another example is that if two players have a pair of aces and the community card is composed of K-10-8-J-3. The pot will be split in this example, unless one of the players can make a flush from the community cards. Therefore this player will be awarded the pot because his card has a better weight when evaluated.

When novice players play ASAP (any suited from any position), there is a high chance for them to get lucky and make money fast in early rounds when they successfully make a flush draw. But in some cases a lot of them go broke as fast as you can win when they continue playing in the later rounds when the limits are much higher.

In Texas Hold’em, the truth is that you can not play any two suited cards from any position if you expect to be a consistent winner. Having a hand of 2-6 whether it is suited or not can be a negative choice.

ASAP is the number one mistake made by many players. Getting two suited cards as a starting hand is fairly common. The probability of being dealt two suited cards is 23.58 percent which means those who like to play ASAP will have plenty of chances to enter the pot. Ending up with a flush can sometimes be difficult. If you start suited and stay to see all seven cards that include your pocket cards and the board cards. The probability that you will make a flush is 5.77 percent. The odds against you are 16.3:1. Playing two suited cards you will only make your flush about once in 16 tries. If you play low suited cards you still have to worry about a bigger flush beating you.

In a tournament you must be cautious in playing ASAP. Since the chips that you are going to loose in an unsuccessful draw cannot be replaced. Always consider the pot odds before doing anything with your suited cards. Any wrong decision you make will greatly affect your tournament chip stock.
