Poker is a family of card games, all following a similar pattern of play and generally using the same hand ranking hierarchy. Texas hold âem is a kind of poker in which each player is dealt five cards, two of which are hole cards and three of which are community cards. Players combine any number of their hole cards with the community cards in order to make the highest five-card hand according to standard hand rankings. Evaluating hands in Texas Holdem occurs at the end of the game in order to see which player has the highest or lowest hand.

Here is the rank of hands from highest to lowest with no wild cards: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, two pair, pair, and single high card.
The royal flush is the highest hand possible, and it occurs when you have five high cards of the same suit in sequence with Ace as the highest card. The straight flush occurs when you simply have five cards of the same suit in sequence. The four of a kind is when you have four of a certain kind of card plus a single card. The full house is when you have three of a kind with a pair.
The flush occurs when you have any five cards of the same suit. The straight occurs when you have any five cards in sequence and unsuited. The three of a kind is when you have three of a certain kind of card plus two single cards. The two pair is when you have two pairs of cards plus a single card. The pair is when you have a pair of cards plus three single cards. The single high card occurs when you have five cards of differing suits, with the Queen as the highest card.
By evaluating hands in Texas Holdem, the winner is determined.
