Passing Time with a Simple Deck of Cards

Article by fred jones

A favorite past time for many people when they are within a group and bored out of their minds is a game of cards. Yeah, a simple plain fifty two deck of standard cards can alleviate the boredom and make the boring a bit more interesting. Strange isn’t it? They are just pieces of paper but everyone there are many things you can do with a deck of cards.Maybe it began when we were young. I remember the first game I played as a child was gold fish. Now mind you there are two different types of gold fish that I can remember. One version was that you had to place an entire deck of cards either a normal fifty two deck or one specifically made for the game face down and then play a game of chance and memorization. Flip one card over and see if the other is a match, if so you get points and get to go again. If not, then you put them back and the next person takes their turn.

The second version of gold fish is the one where you shuffle the cards and split them to the rest of the players equally. Then each player asks one other player at a time and picks a card randomly from their deck without knowing what the card is. If the card they picked manages to become a pair with another card in their hand then they get to discard it if not then they just added another card to their hand with the goal of the winner to be the one with no more cards remaining in their hand.

As simple and quite dull the explanation of the game can be, I find it amazing that people of all ages can play this game and somehow find it enjoyable. Then again, more people don’t play this game rather they play games that are more tended to the mature side such as Texas and other games where some kind of exchange can be involved usually something of value such as currency.

Personally to me, playing a game of cards is boring but I still do play it once in a while because it can for a short duration bring back some excitement during a boring time of my life such as while studying, doing work and other dull tasks. I’ll find myself solitaire or with the newest addition to Vista Ultimate from Microsoft the Texas game they have added. If not I find myself at Yahoo games and other sites playing other kinds of card games that they have available to remove the boredom of doing nothing for hours on end.

But this isn’t just me. Many other people from different ethnicity, age, culture and other differences that make each and every one of us unique also have buried themselves for hours and hours playing all sorts of games that you can play with a simple deck of cards. But don’t just take my word for it. Why don’t you go and give it a try? Who knows what the future holds? Who knows what chance might have in store for you?

Playing the Game of Kalooki

Article by Gen Wright

Kalooki is a card game based on melds. It is fun and interesting once you figure out the basic rules. However, the rules may be rather different from other traditional card games that you are familiar with. So if you interested in learning more about the game of Kalooki, perhaps you may find this article useful. Here is how to play a game of Kalooki.

The game starts out by distributing 13 cards to each player. The remaining cards are then left on the stock pile. The game requires 2 to 6 players, so you can’t play this game alone. You have to involve your family and friends.

Each player will have his or her turn. During a turn, a player must draw a card either from the stock pile, or the discard pile. The turn must end with the player discarding some cards on the discard pile. The basic rules of the game revolve around melds. You can only discard cards when they form melds. Melds are card combinations that allow you to discard the cards in your hands. The goal is to be the first player to finish discarding all the cards in your hands.

As you can imagine, each player will be trying to figure out the best way to discard all the cards they have. Remember, you can only discard cards only if there is an available meld (combination) for you to do so.

Like all card games, there are various strategies you can use to beat the competition. In Kalooki, two common strategies used are “Hunt” and “Going out”. Using the Hunt strategy, the player holds on to the cards in his or her hands. When the other players start to have lesser cards as they continue to discard their cards, that also means that it gets harder and harder for them to form melds. That is when the Hunt player strikes. The Hunt player will then discard melds all at one go, easily overtaking all the other players. This is a very popular strategy because there is an element of surprise.

The Going Out strategy is the reverse of the Hunt strategy. That means the player gradually discard cards one at a time until all the cards have been discarded. This strategy is less exciting, but it’s highly effective as well. Ultimately, the strategy that a player chooses depends on the hand that the player is dealt with. A skilled Kalooki player will know which strategy to use based on the cards that he or she is holding.

The game of Kalooki is not often mentioned in social gatherings. Therefore, many people still don’t know about this fun card game. But there are signs of the rising popularity of the game of Kalooki. So be sure to learn how to play this game so that you won’t be left out in the next social gathering!

3 Basic Online Poker Games

Article by michael gentleman

Poker is a card game based on a high-ranking hand system. There are many rules to the game, but most all of them apply to the many variants that have been produced over the years.

The best way to get started in online poker is to learn the way different poker games are played. One very popular variation is Draw Poker, with the most common of these being Five-Card Draw. In this variant, each player at the table receives a full hand of five cards at the beginning of the game. There are usually three rounds in which a player may remove cards from his or her hand and replace them with other cards drawn from the deck.

Then you have the option to bet on your new hand or check (which is the equivalent of betting zero on your turn) or fold. When the number of specified rounds is over, everyone remaining at the table shows his or her hand, and the winner takes all of the chips.

Another variation that appeals to many players is Stud Poker, which contains the popular Five-Card Stud variant. At the beginning of the game, each player at the table is dealt one card face-down and one card face-up. The players then bet on their current two-card hand and then the dealer deals another card face-up to each person playing, continuing this for the whole hand. Since the other player at the table can see what four of your cards are, the betting and playing strategies are much different than games where all five cards are held in your hand, unseen to others.

A common variant that is very similar to Stud is called Community Card Poker, in which the face-up cards are shared by all players at the poker table. The most popular type of this game is Texas Hold Em, and is one of the most-played card games ever. In this game type, each player is dealt two cards face-down at the beginning of the game. For the remainder of the rounds, one card is dealt to the community hand face-up, while each player gets an option to bet on the combination of the cards held in their hand and the cards in the community hand. At the conclusion of each game, the winner takes all of the chips.

Most online casinos offer theses games and many more. It is not hard to find the game that fits your skills.

Poker: A Hybrid of Many Games

Article by stickystebee

The modern form of poker is a hybrid of the many games throughout history involving cards, gambling, and deception. Some historians’ link poker to the Persian game played throughout the 16th century known as “As Nas.” This game utilized a 25 deck of cards and players gambled on the results of the play. The cards used had five different suits the players matched to create hands similar to those played in poker, such as “three-of-a-kind”. The Spanish game of “Primero” is also credited with the development of poker. Like As Nas, Primero was also played in the 16th century. Primero was similar to poker in that players were dealt cards and used deception to give the appearance of a winning hand, regardless of what cards they actually held. Primero is said to have influenced the French game of “Poque,” another card game commonly mentioned when researching the evolution of poker. This is yet another card game that utilized bluffing as a technique towards winning bets.

European settlers brought their various card playing traditions to the region of New Orleans throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries. On Mississippi riverboats, men played card games involving betting on winning hands and using deception to give the impression of having the best hand. Poker continued to evolve into its modern-day form throughout the history of America. As the gold rush drew men across the frontier, players who had learned the game on the Mississippi riverboats brought their cards to the western coast of the continent. In every saloon, one could find men dealing out cards of different suits and betting on their hands. Soon card-decks uniformly contained 52 cards of four different suits. Hands such as the “flush” were enveloped into the rules, and “wild-cards” or jokers were included in decks.

Poker became linked to the military, as soldiers often played card-games when not in battle. Throughout the Civil War, the traditions of poker were spread across the country. As the United States engaged in World Wards, poker was played on various battlefields across Europe and Asia, becoming a part of the culture of these countries as well. Poker continues to evolve. Through the device of having cameras planted into poker tables so that television producers could broadcast the hands of various players, poker became a spectator-sport. Large scale tournaments and celebrity games could be broadcast on television and within casinos, spreading the joy of the game beyond those with cards in their hands. The continuing development of online-poker has further developed the game. Now players can enjoy the game virtually, and their “tells” expressed on their faces can remain hidden from their opponents. Without the physical presence of players around a table, virtual poker has transformed the bluffing aspect of the game. As technology continues to advance, and American history continues to unfold, so will the changes to the game of poker continue to develop.

Origin of Scratch Cards & How They Got Online

Article by Michael J. Perkins

The Origin of Scratch CardsIt is unclear exactly when the first scratch cards appeared but in 1974 the American company, Scientific Games Corporation, led by scientist, John Koza and retail promotions specialist, Daniel Bower, produced the first computer-generated instant Lottery game. Thirteen years later in 1987, another American company, Astro-Med Inc, received the U.S. patent for the instant scratch-off lottery ticket. Scratch cards are generally sold at lottery kiosks or stands rather than at land-based casinos.Although the simple scratch cards require the player to match three (or a varying number) of the same prize amounts in order to win this amount, more sophisticated scratch cards have several different ways of winning on one card. Other types of scratch cards involve symbols or pictures or are adaptations of popular games such as Monopoly or football. The relatively low cost of scratch cards are a major attraction for many people, coupled with the concept of an ‘instant win’ which the term ‘scratch cards’ continue to conjure up and of walking away with your cash win on the spot unlike having to wait for a draw with lotteries. While this is generally the case, there are exceptions to the rule where claiming your scratch card wins can be quite a long and drawn-out process. In the US, particularly in Massachusetts and New York, there are many “instant” tickets which do not pay top prizes “instantly” but over many years, with no cash option.Adapting Scratch Cards for Online UseThe Internet has increased the popularity of scratch cards and made it even more convenient to play them: there is no more running out to the kiosk to buy a ticket when you can buy them online at a time convenient to you. Obviously, the element of “scratching’ the surface of the card had to undergo a change online but the notion of the game remains the same. Instead of scratching the surface of the card, the mouse is used to select the desired area for scratching.Making scratch cards available online has meant that there is much more variety in the type of scratch cards, with vivid graphics and a wide range of different themes, according to many aspects such as seasons or hobbies. These games can be played online without any need to download additional software. If one wants the feeling of playing scratch cards but without any winnings, there are free online versions available although one loses the excitement of winning ‘real cash’. Some online casinos offer bright, colorful versions of scratch cards which remain consistent with the original form of scratch card games, due to their instant play and instant results.TreasureOnNet, although a relatively new company, has already made a name for itself among online scratch card websites, both for its unique system of giving the player sole responsibility for deciding the sum of their scratch ticket and their winnings and for the fact that unlike other online scratch cards, TreasureOnNet scratch tickets contain all the objects that you are looking for and every game provides you with the opportunity to win instant cash. In contrast to other gaming websites that contain a small amount of winning tickets which means that the majority of players bet on a ticket which doesn’t contain any prize, every TreasureOnNet scratch card is unique and not part of a series. TreasureOnNet games are planned in a completely different way so that every game and scratch off ticket contains all the treasure boxes that a player needs and therefore there is a chance to win the big prize in every game.About TreasureOnNet.comTreasureOnNet.com is owned and operated by Membow Itd Company, which is registered in Cyprus. How to Play a Live Black Jack Game

Article by Adrian Carli

Blackjack is a type of casino card game that has been played for a long time, and the live blackjack casino game is also named Lucky 21 or just 21 by players all over the casino world. Blackjack has left its mark in every single country. The Chinese have their own type of Chinese blackjack. The Spanish have their own type of blackjack type, and their 21 is named SuperFun 21. There are various other types of blackjack, like the Vegas Blackjack. All of this version can be played like the usual blackjack casino game differently. Chinese blackjack has factors like special offers that win on specific card combination. The Spanish blackjack casino game utilizes a 48 card deck and not the usual 52 card deck. Certain blackjack casino games even let player surrender and walk away with an early payout. Certain blackjack games play using multiple decks of cards to oppose the counting card technique. But, regardless of the various types of blackjack, it remains one of the most popular games in the world, with rules that hold fast still.

A live blackjack casino games has various names, as mentioned before. But, the game is mostly known as Lucky 21. The game is named like this due to the purpose of the game that is to have a hand with the highest amount that is nearest to 21. Blackjack is a defeat-the-croupier type of casino game, because gamblers should attempt to get nearer 21 than the dealer. The blackjack casino game commences with three types of hands. To start the casino action, gamblers are required to place their wagers. Players can wager on any single one of the three hands. Players may even wager on two out of the three types, or on all three hands even. Gamblers have plenty of time to make their wagers due to the wagers being a very important concept of the game. Gamblers lose and win according to the wagers they placed. Every blackjack casino game table also has wager limits. These limits have the maximum wager quantity and the minimum.

Once gamblers make their wagers, the croupier will draw one card round for every gambler from left to right. Every card is drawn face up, not including the croupier’s card. The croupier will then draw an extra round of cards for every gambler, but not including himself. Gamblers have to place their moves. Players can either stand or hit. Gamblers are given the opportunity to choose before the croupier draws a new card for himself.

Blackjack is a hand that equals a 21, being a winner automatically. If the croupier receives a 21, the gamblers lose out entirely. If a gambler has a 21, the game is finished, and that gambler is a winner automatically. If there are two blackjacks in a single game, the winner is selected by the type of blackjack hand. If the 21 is a total of three cards rather than just two cards, the hand that has a total of 21 with only two cards is selected as the winner. But, if there is a total tie, the wagers are void, and this is named a push. Another famous term is the bust in blackjack, which refers to a hand that has a total over 21.

Now that you have learned everything you need to know of blackjack, you are ready to play a live blackjack online game. Go to DublinBet, CasinoTropez, VegasRed, or EuropaCasino.

Family Game Night Lite

Article by Paul Hoemke

I have recently seen some television ads about ‘family game night’. These ads suggest that you go out and buy some new board games and video games to play with the family once a week on family game night. I see nothing wrong with this idea. I used to love playing board games when I was a kid (which was before the advent of video games by the way). But you should not forget games played with regular playing cards and regular dice, classic games that have been played and enjoyed for years. Including some of these games in family game night would add variety for little extra cost.

When I think back to my childhood, I remember having fun playing the board games and store-bought card games that were popular at the time. But I also fondly remember when my family went camping and we would sit at the picnic table at night playing Cribbage by the light of a kerosene lamp. My wife cherishes the times when she was a girl and she went to her grandmother’s house and played Canasta all afternoon. And when I was in college, I loved playing Hearts and Oh Pshaw with my college friends.

How many card games do you remember playing as a child? War, and Memory, and Go Fish, and Crazy Eights. And you may have played Authors and Old Maid using cards specifically printed for those games, but they can both be played using regular playing cards. And you may have played the dice game Shut The Box using a special box with numbered tiles on hinges, but you can substitute playing cards for the tiles. Instead of shutting the box, you flip the cards. And you can play the dice game Yacht, the free version of a similarly-named dice game, using five dice and a readily available score sheet.

I think in this day and age of computers and video games, people tend to forget simpler times when a game of Hearts could bring a group of people together for an evening of conversation and snacking and fun. It’s sort of ironic that Hearts is a game that most people can find in the Games folder on their computer. You can play against three computer opponents, but you cannot ask “How was your day?” and expect an answer from any of them.

Go to a bookstore or library and pick up a book of game rules. Or look on the Internet for ‘Card Game Rules’ or ‘Dice Game Rules’. Brush-up on the rules of a card or dice game that you like but have not played for a long time. Or learn the rules of an unfamiliar game that looks interesting. Then bring the game to family game night.

You can even try a ‘family game night lite’ where you lay a couple of decks of cards and a half-dozen dice on the table and play nothing except classic card and dice games. Who knows? Maybe the family will request ‘family game night lite’ once a month.
